Stephen Fry - Serious Readers Series - 3 of 3
Monday 20 May 2019At this year’s Hay Festival, we will be sponsoring the event ‘Mythos’ by Stephen Fry which takes place on Sunday 26th May 2019 at 7pm on the Baillie Gifford Stage.
Stephen will be telling stories from his two books ‘Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold’ and ‘Heroes: Mortals and Monsters, Quests and Adventures’. Both books look at some of the greatest Greek mythological stories that have been told for thousands of years. These myths have gone on to inspire the works of Shakespeare, Michelangelo and Walt Disney.
Stephen Fry doesn’t really need an introduction, but he is an English comedian, actor and writer. Stephen has been the president of Hay Festival since 2014 and has been part of numerous events at Hay Festival over the years.
Fry is well known for a variety of different acting roles. He starred in the film Wilde, which was nominated for a Golden Globe, as well as playing Gordon Deitrich in the thriller ‘V for Vendetta’. He has played roles in TV shows Blackadder, Kingdom and Bones. Stephen won an Emmy Award for writing and presenting the documentary series ‘Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive’ which looked at his bipolar disorder. Perhaps what Stephen is best known for was being the host of the BBC quiz show ‘QI’ which he hosted for 14 years.
Off the screen Stephen is known for writing articles and columns for various newspapers and magazines as well as penning his own books and 3 autobiographies. He also appears on BBC Radio 4 regularly and is a frequent guest on panel games such as Just a Minute and I’m Sorry I haven’t a clue. Stephen also has a famous voice after reading all seven of the Harry Potter books for UK audiobook recordings as well as filming an advert explaining British culture to arriving foreigners at London Heathrow Airport.
Unfortunately, as you can imagine tickets have sold out for this event. However, you can log in to your account on the hay festival website to add the event to your wish list, so that you can be notified in case of further availability.
